RICHLAND (WKZO) -- The Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s office thought they had a pretty good case against John Thompson on the charges of fleeing and eluding. Thompson, who happens to be Parchment Middle School's assistant principal and the high school athletic director, was arrested on April 4, 2012 on charges of driving while intoxicated and fleeing police.
The prosecution went to court with video evidence of an 8-mile police chase with Thompson going way over the speed limit. Thompson’s lawyer argued that he was so incredibly drunk on that day, that he didn’t even realize there were police chasing him, and therefore couldn’t be found guilty of fleeing.
At least one juror, maybe more accepted the defense's argument beacuse the jury could not reach a verdict on that charge. Thompson was, however, found guilty on three misdemeanors.
The Prosecutor's office has tentatively set a November 27th date for a retrial.
