Stuntman Felix Baumgartner breaks skydive record in New Mexico

From WENN.com

The professional daredevil performed the supersonic feat high above New Mexico on Sunday (14Oct12).

Baumgartner jumped from a helium-filled balloon and landed safely on his feet in the desert minutes later. It took him just over two hours and 20 minutes to reach 24 miles into the stratosphere.

In making the stunt jump, the extreme athlete hoped to become the first skydiver to break the speed of sound.

Before attempting the feat, Baumgartner chatted with retired Air Force colonel Joe Kittinger, 84, who jumped from 102,800 feet (31,333.44 metres) in 1960, setting a record that stood for over 50 years.
