(NEW YORK) (1660 THE FAN) - This time, Tigers fans were spared a 9th inning heartbreak. Phil Coke closed out NY, and as a result, Detroit heads home with a 2-0 lead in the ALCS, defeating the Yankees 3-0 Sunday. Annibal Sanchez outdueled Hiroki Kuroda, as the Tigers once again relied on smallball to score its 3 runs. That 2-0 Detroit lead in the series grows larger for the Yankees, with the spectre of ace Justin Verlander taking the mound in Tuesday's game 3 at Comerica Park. That broadcast begins at 7:40p on 590 WKZO. By the way, Detroit manager Jim Leyland did report that closer Jose Valverde would not appear in game 2 before the game, stating that pitching coach Jeff Jones had apparently found a flaw in Valverde's delivery, and had begun working with the Tigers' closer on Sunday.
