Broncos fall short in overtime

KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- After a night of big hits and huge saves the Broncos fell 4-3. In the back and forth game, Western fought back but couldn't find the back of the net in overtime.  Saints goalie Matt Weninger stood on his head at times stopping 33 of 36 shots.  This loss can really be chalked up to the inability to score on the powerplay.

Western showed heart in the season opener.  After an early Saints goal just 5 minutes into the game, Western came right back down the ice to score a minute later.  As the Saints pulled away late in the contest, all hope seemed to be lost.  The Broncos didn't quit and were all over the ice, they managed to send the game into overtime with a Garrett Harr wrister from the point with only 31 seconds remaining.  Just 1:33 into the overtime the Saints did manage to squeak one by WMU goalie Frank Slubowski, finalizing the 4-3 loss.

Special teams were the big story of the game. Western finished the night going 0-7 on the power play and let up two goals when they were a man down.  The points were completly spread around with no Bronco reaching two points on the night.  The Broncos will play the Saints again tomorrow at 7pm.
