KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The Jury in the John Thompson drunk driving case found him guilty of the three misdemeanors he faced, but could not come to a verdict on the felony charge of fleeing and eluding.
As we reported earlier, Thompson admitted on he stand that he was guilty of driving drunk, being super drunk and having an open intoxicant, but denied remembering that he was being chased, or even driving that night. Knowing you are fleeing police is apparently a requirement in being fond guilty of the crime, and he testified he was simply to drunk to know the difference. That deadlocked the jury. The prosecutor has the option to try him again on the felony. The School District released a statement late in the day that Thompson’s status with the district, suspended without pay, will not change until the felony charge is resolved.
