VAN BUREN COUNTY, MICHIGAN (WTVB) - Former Portage 5th grade teacher Leslie Buscher has been found guilty of being a “Superdrunk” one of the first to be charged in the state in the summer of 2011. She was found by Van Buren County Deputies so drunk that she was unresponsive, slumped behind the wheel of her SUV, with two toddlers strapped into the backseat, and half a cup of vodka in the cupholder.
Poice say Buscher had a blood alcohol count that was 5 times the legal limit, so they took her to the hospital and not to jail. The charges were dismissed at one point when her attorney argued that because she was technically parked on private property, that she couldn’t be arrested, but the prosecutor successfully argued on appeal that the SUV had to be on public property to get there. She has also been found guilty of driving drunk with minors on board and open intoxicants. No sentencing date has been set. She resigned from the school district last month.
