PORTAGE (WKZO) -- The Portage City Council has agreed to spend another 29-thousand dollars to level out the city’s Softball diamonds.
The memo says they need periodic Maintenance. Thousands participate in the adult softball leagues in Portage during the summer time but the field has a tendency to shift. It was built on the former city landfill and depressions form and mounds bubble up as the trash settles and ferments.
No one has ever been gobbled up in a sink hole going for a fly ball, but the outfield isn’t supposed to have undulations like a golf course either, and there are safety concerns and liability issues.
