KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- It’s a bold defense. Parchment Athletic Director John Thompson took to the stand and admitted he was drunk, in fact he said he was “SuperDrunk”.
He testified that he was so incredibly intoxicated back on April 4th that he couldn’t remember getting into his car and leading police on a high speed chase that got up to 120MPH.
Thompson admitted on the stand Tuesday that he was guilty of the three misdemeanors, driving drunk, driving with open intoxicants in the car and driving with a high blood alcohol content. He tested at .25, over three times the legal limit.
His lawyer says unless he knowingly fled from officers, he can’t be found guilty of the felony fleeing an eluding charge. Being convicted of misdemeanors is one thing, but being convicted of a felony could cost him his job and his career.
The Jury met briefly behind closed doors and then called it quits for the night. They will be back in court Wednesday morning to resume deliberations.
Thompson is on unpaid leave from his job with the district.
