COVERT (WKZO) -- The parent company of the Palisades nuclear power plant in Covert Township is suing the federal government.  The lawsuit by Entergy against the U.S. Department of Energy has been revealed after being filed in late September.

The lawsuit alleges a breach of contract concerning a 1983 deal to have the government remove and dispose of spent nuclear fuel.  That was supposed to have begun in 1998, and the lawsuit alleges nothing has been done even though Entergy and Consumers Energy paid "substantial fees in return for the Government's obligation to remove and dispose" of the fuel.
