(DETROIT, MI)(1660 THE FAN) - The Tigers drew first blood in their AL Division Series against Oakland, defeating the A's 3-1  on Saturday.  Detroit ace Justin Verlander, after giving up a lead off home run to Coco Crisp to start the game, held Oakland batters in check for 7 innings, striking out 11.  Detroit's bullpen then took over, as Joaquin Benoit and Jose Valverde shut out the A's in the last two innings.  The Tigers scored two runs by playing small ball, and Alex Avila hit a solo home run to finish the scoring.  Detroit has a 1-0 in the best-of-five series, and can take a commanding 2-0 with a win Sunday.  Broadcast time is 11:40 am on 590 WKZO.
