Paw Paw, MI – The Paw Paw Defense had big stands in the second half and that led them to a 28-14 win over Plainwell in a Wolverine Conference showdown on Friday night at Falan Field. Paw Paw also got a big night from Quarterback Justin McCauley who threw one touchdown, rushed for another and intercepted two passes on the defensive side.
Paw Paw led wire to wire, but Plainwell was able to stay close for much of the night. Leading by eight points the Redskins defense came up with their biggest stop of the night. Plainwell drove the ball 81 yards and down to the three yard line, but their drive came to an end when the Paw Paw defense stuffed a fourth and goal at the one yard line. At the time it preserved a 22-14 lead.
McCauley’s arm put the finishing touches on the Trojans. Facing a fourth down from the 13 yard line the Redskin senior scrambled around until he found Bobby Yarbrough in the end zone to give Paw Paw their final score of the night.
Plainwell, a team not known for passing, relied on the pass for much of the night. Carter Yaw came off the bench to throw one touchdown and led numerous drives for the Plainwell offense. The Trojan offense was also plagued by turnovers as the Paw Paw defense intercepted the Plainwell quarterbacks three times on the night.
Redskins remain undefeated and Plainwell drops to 5-2. With the win Paw Paw also takes over sole possession of first place in the Wolverine North Division.
