DETROIT (WTVB) - Michigan's Secretary of State is headed to court. Ruth Johnson will be in federal court in Detroit today to answer questions on her plans to have a citizenship check-off box on voter ballot applications. Her office filed a motion this week seeking to ban local clerks from testifying about why they would disregard the check-off box and barring the plaintiffs in the case from questioning her authority to place the question of citizenship on the ballot. A group suing to block the check-off boxes argues they are unconstitutional. People who are not U.S. citizens are not eligible to vote.
