MINNEAPOLIS (WKZO) -- It was Prince Fielder’s turn to be the hero of the game as he smacked a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to give the Tigers to a 2-1 win over the Twins, and win the series in Minnesota.
Fielder's 30th of the season came with two outs off losing reliever Jared Burton. Starter Liam Hendriks threw seven shutout innings in a no-decision. Phil Coke got the win for Detroit and Jose Valverde his 34th save.
The Tigers took two-of-three at Target Field and moved three games ahead of the White Sox atop the AL Central with three games to play. That means their Magic Number is now 1.
The Tigers just need to win one against Kansas City, or the White Sox lose one in their final series and Detroit will clinch the division.
