ANTWERP (WKZO) -- A Portage man has been hospitalized following a traffic accident believed to have been caused by a medical issue.

55-year-old David Beattie suffered head and body trauma after a rollover accident in the 23000-block of 60th Avenue in Van Buren County's Antwerp Township.  He was taken to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo where he has since been listed in stable condition.

It's believed low blood sugar caused Beattie to lose consciousness for a moment, resulting in the crash.  Deputies say he was wearing his seatbelt and air bags deployed, preventing much more serious injuries than he sustained.
