Lawton man cheated out of $4,000 and not afraid to talk about it

LAWTON (WKZO) -- We warned you about this. A Lawton man named Carroll Rimes, who wants his story told, says he was victimized by scammers from overseas, who convinced him that his grandson had been hurt in a car wreck in Peru, and was in jail and needed $2-thousand dollars or they wouldn’t let him go. The 85-year-old Rimes sent the money.

They him back and said he needed another $2,000, and he sent that too. He was preparing to send out $3000 when the clerk at the Western Union told him it might be a scam. He called his grandson, who lives in New York, and learned he had never left the country and was just fine. Rimes canceled the $3,000 shipment to Lima Peru.

Van Buren County Detectives say never send money over seas to claim lottery drawings or to bail out relatives or you could be bamboozled too.
