COOPER COUNTY, MISSOURI (WKZO) -- A Jail escapee from Kalamazoo has been busted in Cooper County, Missouri. The arrest came after a hair-raising high speed chase with deputies that lasted half an hour and got up to 100-mph. Ross Emerson Culver walked away from a work detail at the Kalamazoo County Jail earlier this week.
The stolen car he had boosted in Kalamazoo was flagged by a license plate reader. When they tried to pull him over, he sped off, eventually crashing the car.
When finally captured, he gave police a false name, but they eventually figured out who he was. He may have to face charges there before he is shipped back to Michigan.
Jail officials say if he had just stayed put, he would have been home for Christmas. Now he may spend the next few Christmases, and all the days in between in a prison cell.
