KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Thursday afternoon's Potluck Pals event continues a weeklong focus on helping eradicate hunger in the community.
As was the case on Wednesday, the focus specifically is on kids.
Thursday's benefactor of Potluck Pals proceeds is Generous Hands, a Vicksburg-area effort to make sure young children are fed all weekend while they do not have access to school lunch programs.
"The backpacks are filled with a variety of nutritional foods," according to Sheri Lewis, director with Generous Hands.
She told WKZO the backpacks are innocuous and are assembled in time for children at-risk for unaddressed hunger over the weekend. The children are identified by school officials, and the program is carried out quietly, so as to not call specific attention to the kids who participate.
Thursday's event is set for 4 to 6pm at Fred's Pharmacy, 121 West Prairie Street in Vicksburg.
