BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) -- A long procession of ambulances, fire trucks, and police cruisers with their overhead lights flashing made up the procession as the body of Paramedic Brittany Despins of Battle Creek was transported to its final resting place Wednesday.
The 24-year-old was mortally injured a week ago Sunday when a car she was riding in went off the U.S.-131 Business Loop north of Kalamazoo. She had gotten out of the car and was lending aide to fellow EMT Trevor Stuck, who had been ejected from the car, when a second car came off the road and struck them.
Stuck died at the scene. Despins remained in critical condition for a week, essentially brain dead until her family made the decision to take her off life support and donate her organs.
