KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Potluck Pals are helping feed children considered food insecure in Kalamazoo County, with $2505 raised from "A Holiday Dish to Pass" cookbook sales Tuesday to benefit the Bethany Reformed Church Backpack Buddies program.
On Wednesday, they will help Loaves and Fishes feed children as well, from 11am to 1pm at the Harding's Friendly Market in Parchment, 618 North Riverview Drive.
"Twenty-five percent of the kids in Kalamazoo County are living at or below poverty. That's a big issue," Loaves and Fishes Executive Director Anne Lipsey told WKZO. "A lot of those kids are not food secure without an organization like Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes."
Of that 25%, Lipsey said, is 50% at or below the poverty line living within the Kalamazoo city limits.
"They just need to have three squares a day, a roof over their head and a good school to go to. That's what we're about and it's wonderful work," Lipsey said. "This community is incredibly generous."
