KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo Township will exempt schools from violating their a ordinance.
The request came from a school that was issued a noise violation for an alarm on a school building. However, the Township board will not follow in the footsteps of the Cities of Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids to ban fireworks on all but the 30 days permitted by state law.
Township Attorney Kenneth Sparks says their current noise ordinance, because it was enacted before the state's new fireworks law still can be enforced 365 days a year, regardless of the new law.
