KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- While many southwest Michiganders are preparing for Thanksgiving crowds of family and friends in their own homes on Thursday, Kalamazoo's Stacy Skartsiaris is gearing up to feed a restaurant-full on Thanksgiving.
Her Theo and Stacy's downtown restaurant will again host a free Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday.
It will mark the 35th year the Skartsiaris family and its army of volunteers have cooked and served the meal to those who might otherwise have nowhere to go on the holiday.
"We started to get ready about a week ago," Skartsiaris told WKZO.
She expects to serve more than 1,000 people on Thanksgiving Day, thanks to her entire family who all step up and serve the meals without asking for anything in return.
Skartsiaris also said an army of volunteers also helps, some of whom have made it their own tradition for the whole 35 years.
Theo and Stacy's free meals will be served at their downtown location only, at 234 West Michigan Avenue, west of Rose Street.
Bill and Kellie Cekola will also serve free Thanksgiving dinners to those in need at their restaurant, Joe's Cekola's Pizza, at 7638 South Westnedge in Portage.
They plan to serve meals from 11am to 4pm on Thanksgiving Day.
