Broncos come from behind to split series with Nanooks

FAIRBANKS, AK (WKZO) -- The Broncos defeated the Nanooks 3-2 tonight with a 3rd period surge.

Western Michigan continued to struggle against Alaska in the first period tonight.  The Nanooks found the back of the net late in the first just as the Broncos killed off a 5 on 3 penalty.  The goal came from Adam Henderson at the 14:41 mark, his 4th goal of the year.  WMU also had issues getting the puck on net through the first 20 minutes, getting outshot 13-5.

The second period had little to no action until midway, when Dane Walters had a big hit on a Nanook,  This resulted in both teams laying major hits on each other until finally the Broncos Luke Witkowski was called for hooking.  Less than a minute into the powerplay Cody Kunyk put Alaska up 2-0 at 10:20  The period continued to be a messy one with several penalty calls but no one was able to convert on the advantages and Alaska took a 2 goal lead into the 3rd

The Broncos finally woke up in the 3rd period and scored two quick goals to tie the game 2-2.  The first came from Garrett Haar at 3:34 and the second came less than a minute later from Shane Berschback at 4:31.  Late in the period Mike Cichy netted the 3rd consecutive Broncos goal, that was enough to lift them to the 3-2 come from behind victory.
