MEADE (WKZO) -- The opening day of firearms deer season turned deadly for a 54-year-old hunter from Zeeland.

Rich DeBoer was found dead in his van at the Manistee National Forest around 8:30 a.m. Thursday by his son.  He was at the campsite being used by him, his son and others and was sleeping in the van with a propane heater going to stay warm.

DeBoer died from asphyxiation.
