KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Congressman Fred Upton (R-St. Joseph) tells WKZO the U.S. House subcommittee hearings on the Fungal Meningitis outbreak have been difficult.
"We're a little bit frustrated, to say the least," Upton said. "We've tried to get some of the internal memos from the FDA as it relates to this investigation, and they've not been forthcoming."
Upton chaired the first hearing, held this week on Capitol Hill.
"They found stuff that we wouldn't allow in our kitchens, let alone anyplace else," Upton said. "A bird flying around - good grief," he said, referring to part of the investigation which apparently uncovered that a bird was flying around inside the Massachusetts compounding pharmacy at the center of the inquiry.
More hearings are expected.
