SOUTH HAVEN (WKZO) -- New information has been released about that tragic triple fatal automobile collision near South Haven Tuesday evening. The driver of the car that investigators say caused the head-on collision remains hospitalized. They say he may be charged in his hospital bed and moved straight to jail once he is discharged from their care.
His license had been revoked and suspended multiple times and he had previous drunk driving convictions. Police say he also appeared to be drunk and driving his pickup on a suspended license Tuesday night, when he pulled out to pass a car on C.R. 388 and slammed head on into another car.
They also say that it appears that Brittany King, who died behind the wheel of that second car that contained the two young girls was also driving on a suspended license, but was sober on Tuesday. It may be impossible to say, but the two young girls, 2-year-old Kandice and 4-year-old Cassadi Berryhill might have survived if they had been strapped into approved child restraint seats as the law requires.
The at-fault driver, and the 3rd passenger in the car, Justin Berryhill continue to recover from multiple injuries.
A small memorial of flowers and teddy bears has appeared at the site where the crash occurred, a crash that seems more tragic and senseless now than before.
