VICKSBURG (WKZO) -- It appears the injuries suffered by two Vicksburg residents in a fire that destroyed their home yesterday are not as serious as originally reported. The initial press release reported that the two had suffered burns to 90% of their bodies and were in critical condition.
51-year-old Cherie Moore is now reported to be in good condition with burns primarily on her hands. 49-year-old Troy Cantwell suffered more serious and extensive burns but it also expected to survive.
Apparently Moore’s daughter came home from work just in time to rescue them before something exploded in the home.
They lost two cats and a dog, but did manage to rescue one dog.
Fire investigators say its too early to tell what caused it, but say the chimney to a wood burning stove is a prime suspect that they intend to look at closely.
