KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- About 100 new mentors have begun their assignments helping Kalamazoo Public Schools students learn.
Kalamazoo Communities in Schools is behind the effort, partnering with WKZO's Lori Moore to form the "Lori Moore Corps."
"We talk about what we do as a big organization and we talk about what volunteers can expect," according to Carly Wiggins, the director of volunteer services at Communities in Schools, referring to the first training sessions volunteers are attending.
Most volunteers have a say in what sort of mentoring they would like to do, and there are still opportunities for new volunteers.
"The first stop would be to sign up at CISKalamazoo.org," Wiggins said.
Mentors typically spend an hour per week with their mentees.
