EMMETT TOWNSHIP (WKZO) -- A man who manufactured his own $100 dollar bills and tried to launder them at the Fire Keepers Casino just before Christmas last year, will avoid jail, but will pay a hefty fine.
35-year-old Christopher Rooney of Kalamazoo used his computer copier to run off a few Federal Reserve Notes, and tried to pass one of them. Either act is normally a 20-year felony.
Federal Judge Robert Jonker noted that it was his first offense and that he was gambling and drug addicted at the time. He has since addressed both addictions with treatment. He was put on 4-years probation, and ordered to pay a $5000 fine, and $420 restitution.
