KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The Kalamazoo Westside Kiwanis Club has named WKZO's Lori Moore as its "Citizen of the Year."
"We've been for the last few years selecting somebody in the community that we think has done a good job in the ideas Kiwanis promotes," according to Kiwanian David Moss. "[That includes] community service, particularly things that focus on children."
Moore was expected to accept the award at an event Thursday evening at the Kalamazoo Country Club.
"She does a lot of great things between her cookbooks every year and her 'Lori Moore Corp' for tutoring," Moss said. "We want to recognize the work she does to help make Kalamazoo a better place."
The eleventh edition of Moore's "Potluck Pals" cookbook benefits a number of area charities and will be unveiled on November 23, sold at locations all around the Kalamazoo area.
The effort has raised more than $500,000 for charity over the last 10 years.
The "Lori Moore Corps" is a collaborative effort with Kalamazoo Communities in Schools to attract mentors for area schoolchildren. An initial drive to attract volunteers earlier this year attracted more than 100 new mentors. See more information by clicking here.
