JACKSON  (WKZO) -- New Jersey is getting a lot of help from other states in the recovery from Hurricane Sandy. Governor Chris Christie says 280 state troopers from eight states have arrived in New Jersey to help with security and recovery operations.

They are expected to be sworn in today, so they have authority and jurisdiction to make arrests and exercise police powers. They will man checkpoints and run patrols in Monmouth and Ocean counties. 24-troopers left from Jackson yesterday, headed to the Garden State for a 7 day deployment.

Its only the second time Michigan has sent State Troopers to another state under an Emergency Management Assistance Compact. The first time was in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.Troopers are also being sent from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Mississippi, , Florida, Maine, Vermont and Louisiana.
