KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Six Kalamazoo residents were able to escape the smoke and flames that erupted in the upstairs bedroom of a home at 1124 North Street last evening. Thanks to a smoke detector, none of them were injured.

The flames were largely confined to the upper story but there was smoke and fire damage throughout the home.

Fire crews were still at the scene well past midnight. No cause or damage estimate has been released.
