CALHOUN COUNTY (WKZO) -- An unarmed Bedford Township man is dead and the Battle Creek Police officer who shot him is recovering from facial injuries and on paid administrative leave, while the shooting is reviewed.

The officers were responding to a domestic dispute call at the home  near Uldricks and Michigan Ave.

It was there that police say that 24-year-old Matthew Daniels assaulted one of the officers, who responded with a single fatal gunshot.

Daniels friends say while he was a very large man, they never knew him to be violent, but the officer was injured in the assault and required treatment.
