BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) -- Enbridge Energy has released the cost of the clean-up along Talmadge Creek and the Kalamazoo River following their oil pipeline spill. So far, the total is 810-million dollars. They have filed for 505-million in reimbursement from their insurance carrier. They have paid four-million dolalrs in federal fines, and so far 691-million has been paid to contractors.
The EPA now wants them to dredge about 100-acres of the river because all other attempts and methods they have tried to remove submerged oil from the river have failed. That could add tens of millions more to the cost and another year of work along the river.
