LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan's Republican Secretary of State has dismissed all but one of the charges against Speaker Jase Bolger and state Representative Roy Schmidt, but that doesn't mean they are in the clear. The two were charged with attempting to rig an election back when Schmidt made his surprise jump from the Democratic to the Republican Party.
Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer filed the complaint with Ruth Johnson, wanting to know if any campaign funding had been misused in the process. Brewer is calling it a whitewash and a cover-up. Bolger Spokesman Ari Adler, who was also a subject of the probe, is calling Brewer's complaints "baseless."
The Secretary of State's office says a campaign finance complaint filed by the Kent County prosecutor is still pending, and a one man Grand Jury investigation into other possible illegal acts connected to the case continues.
