DETROIT (1660 THE FAN) – For the second time this season, Doug Fister has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. The Detroit Tigers announced Wednesday that the move is retroactive to Tuesday due to a left ribcage muscle strain that cut his April 7th start short against Boston.
Fister is winless in six starts for Detroit this season with a 3.15 ERA. Last season in 11 games with the Tigers, Fister posted an 8-1 record and 1.79 ERA.
In his place, the Tigers plan to recall Casey Crosby from Triple-A Toledo. Crosby posted a 4-2 record with a 4.26 ERA in nine starts for the Mud Hens. The 23-year-old lefty was selected by Detroit in the fifth round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft. Crosby is slated to make his first start for Detroit Friday against the Yankees at Comerica Park.
Detroit and Boston play in Game 3 of 4 tonight at Fenway Park. Drew Smyly is the starter for the Tigers with the first pitch set for 7:10 pm on AM 590 WKZO.
