Former Attorney to Undergo Comptency Exam

GRAND RAPIDS (WHTC) - A former Zeeland attorney accused of taking $800,000 from clients who had invested their money in estate plans that he oversaw will undergo an evaluation to see if he’s competent to stand trial. Kenneth Hoesch was arraigned Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids on mail fraud charges. Hoesch’s attorney asked for the case to be adjourned because his client has not received medication for attention-deficit disorder while being held in the Newaygo County Jail. Without the medication, the attorney says Hoesch has short-term memory loss. The jail, which houses inmates under contract with the federal government, doesn’t allow the drug Hoesch uses to be prescribed to inmates.
