MUSKEGON HEIGHTS (WKZO) -- It’s the most dramatic solution to a financially distressed school district yet.
Muskegon Heights new Emergency Manager is not even going to try to save the public school district. Don Weatherspoon is proposing it be turned into a Charter School this fall.
All but three buildings will be closed, the staff has already been handed their pink slips and will have to win back their jobs. Some will, but some probably won’t. No numbers have been discussed.
Weatherspoon says the long range plan is to make it a public system again when its 12-million dollar deficit is paid off.
He is planning a public meeting to explain his plan next Wednesday at 5:30 at the High School.
