HOUSTON (WKZO) – Chicago hasn’t won a baseball game in over a week. They also haven’t lead in a baseball game since the fourth inning last Wednesday, spanning 59 innings. That trend continued Tuesday night in Houston, falling to the Astros 2-1.
Starting in place of the demoted Chris Volstad, Travis Wood gave up all of the runs to Houston in 5.2 innings of work, striking out three and walking a pair of batters. Volstad opened the season with an 0-6 record, and was sent down to Iowa.
Shawn Camp and James Russell combined for two strikeouts and surrendered two hits in relief.
J.A. Happ picked up his fourth win for the Astros, striking out six in as many innings. His only blemish was the Alfonso Soriano solo homerun in the fourth inning tying the game at 1. Houston’s bullpen was solid, striking out seven without issuing any walks in relief.
Jeff Samardzija is set to start the series finale Wednesday. First pitch on 1660 The Fan is 8:05 pm.
