LANSING (WHTC) - The state House Thursday unanimously approved a bill that would name a bridge in honor of former Holland recreation director and World War II hero Matt Urban. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Dale Zorn of Ida, would name a bridge on U.S. 24 in Monroe County after Urban, who was Holland’s recreation director from 1973-1989, and before that had been director of the city of Monroe’s recreation center for 16 years. Urban, who died in 1995, was one of the most highly decorated soldiers in American history, receiving 29 medals for bravery during World War II, including seven Purple Hearts. The bill goes to the state Senate.
