HOLLAND (WHTC) - Holland officials say they’ll have a better idea by the end of the month on what new repairs are needed at the historic DeZwaan windmill, and more importantly, how much it’s going to cost. A Dutch crew had been overseeing replacement work on the windmill’s observation deck last month when a crack was discovered in a large beam that spans the cap of DeZwaan, as well as some rot in that wood. For now, the windmill’s blades have been stabilized so it can’t move. The city spent more than $236,000 last fall to have the observation deck work done, but officials they don’t have the money for additional repairs. A fundraising effort is in the works, but Mayor Kurt Dykstra told WHTC's "Red's Place" Friday morning that won’t get going until they have a better idea of how much the additional repairs will cost.
