COVERT (WKZO) -- The Palisades Nuclear Plant is back on line this weekend, ending a 33-day refueling and maintenance outage. During the downtime, 64 new fuel assemblies were taken out and replaced in the reactor on the Lake Michigan shore at Covert.
They also completed an inspection of the two low pressure turbines, four moisture separators and re-heaters and cleaned and inspected the main condenser and reactor vessel head.
It took a crew of 12-hundred additional workers to assist the plant’s usual staff to complete the work. The plant is slowly working its way back to full capacity as they monitor the systems and the steam water chemistry.
It should be back up to full capacity early this week.
