OAKLAND, CA (WKZO) – The Tigers tasted a bit of their own medicine Friday night in Oakland. They couldn’t get their bats going; meanwhile Oakland posted 13 hits en route to an 11-4 thumping of Detroit. The four game series is now tied 1-1.
Miguel Cabrera accounted for three of Detroit’s four runs, putting the Tigers on the board in the first frame. He grounded into a double play, but drove Austin Jackson in in the process. Cabrera added two more RBI’s, scoring Gerald Laird in the third and Jackson again in the eighth inning. Delmon Young added the final run two batters later, scoring Andy Dirks on a single to center field.
Rick Porcello was roughed up by Oakland’s bats, giving up nine hits, four runs and walking three in five innings. Brandon Inge lit up the scoring column again, driving in four RBI’s in just two hits on the night. Josh Reddick supplemented Inge’s effort, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate, including a pair of homeruns as part of a four run sixth inning that blew the game open for the Athletics.
Doug Fister will start for Detroit for Game 3 of the series Saturday. First pitch is set for 8:05 pm on AM 590 WKZO.
