SEATTLE, WA (WKZO) - Not since last season had the Detroit Tigers been able to penetrate the seemingly invincible armor of the Seattle Mariners...the same Mariner team that, by the way, had a perfect game thrown against them earlier this season. Even with Justin Verlander on the mound, it could be a tough night for the Tigers. Enter Andy Dirks. Dirks drove in 3 runs with 2 hits, as Detroit provided Verlander with a five-run cushion on a night when he wasn't at his best. End result...another Jose Valverde horror show in the ninth...but this time Papa Grande didn't give up the game, and Detroit broke through with a 6-4 win. Detroit can take the series with a win Wednesday night, and now that they have the first one, maybe it won't be so hard to get another. Broadcast time on AM 590 WKZO is 9:40 Wednesday night.
