DETROIT (WKZO) – Adam Dunn showed off the power the White Sox have been hoping for in the ninth inning Saturday at Comerica. With one on and one out, Dunn hammered a 1-0 fastball over the right field fence, lifting Chicago over Detroit 3-2.
Max Scherzer delivered the start that Detroit has been hoping for, giving up four hits and a run while striking out nine in seven innings of work. Scherzer sat with the Tigers leading 2-1 in the seventh, and Jose Valverde once again gave up the lead in a save situation.
Detroit’s offense was clicking against Gavin Floyd, scoring both runs against him in the second inning. Andy Dirks drove in Alex Avila on a ground ball that snuck into left field. Austin Jackson recorded his 10th RBI of the season, scoring Jhonny Peralta on a ground ball that deflected off of third baseman Brent Morel.
