KALAMAZOO -- It's estimated that it would cost about 1.3-million dollars to refurbish the Lanelli Fountain of the Pioneers in Bronson Park. They need to replace the plumbing, the wiring and restore those parts of the sculpture and fountain that have fallen away, because of Michigan’s freeze thaw cycle. City Parks Director Frances Jewell says it’s in rough shape. The plumbing has been patched and repaired, the pumps are old and there are cracks and damage to the cement due to the frost freeze nature of Michigan’s winters.
There are no public funds. Fundraising could take 5 to 7 years. This week they presented plans for a new system that would provide drainage, fountain controls and electronics for both pools in the park.
The plans will aid in fundraising and with engineering.
