ARLINGTON, TX (1660 THE FAN) – Doug Fister threw two shutout innings to start the game Wednesday, but was touched for nine runs in two innings as Detroit dropped their second straight series to the Texas Rangers 13-9.
Texas opened the scoring in the second frame thanks to a throwing error from Miguel Cabrera. David Murphy belted a three-run homerun on the next play to open a 4-0 lead on Detroit. Murphy added a solo homerun in the fourth and an RBI single in the fifth to his line on the night.
Miguel Cabrera put Detroit on the board in the third frame, sending Ryan Raburn home on an RBI single to right. Brennan Boesch ended his hitless streak on this road trip, driving Alex Avila home in the fourth inning.
Quintin Berry continued his dominance at the plate, turning in a 3-for-6 performance, including an RBI triple in the fifth. Jhonny Peralta added his 16th RBI on the season in that frame scoring Prince Fielder and Delmon Young.
A four-run eighth inning pulled the Tigers to within two runs, but the Texas bats countered with a pair of runs in their half of the inning to put the game out of reach.
Doug Fister’s struggles continued, only lasting 4.1 innings and giving up eight earned runs. His veteran counterpart, Roy Oswalt, threw six innings giving up five earned runs and striking out six.
