ARLINGTON, TX (1660 THE FAN) – Yu Darvish gave up the first two runs of the game to Detroit, but the Ranger bats let their starter off the hook as Texas evened the series with a 7-5 win Tuesday.
Darvish was shaky at best in the first, walking Quintin Berry and hitting Miguel Cabrera in the helmet. Prince Fielder capitalized, driving an RBI double to center field giving the Tigers the lead for the second straight night.
Ian Kinsler cut the lead in half with a solo homerun in the first frame. The blast was his eighth of the year.
Fielder answered with his 12th homerun to left center extending Detroit’s lead in the fourth. Quintin Berry added an RBI single in the fifth, his twelfth RBI since coming to the majors.
Fielder rounded out the scoring with a sacrifice RBI in the eighth to finish the night with four RBI’s.
The flood gates opened for Texas in their half of the frame, scoring four runs on four hits to take the lead for good.
Drew Smyly made his first start since going on the disabled list with a blister on his pitching hand. The rookie starter went 4.2 innings giving up six earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and a pair of walks.
Doug Fister has the start Wednesday in the series finale against Roy Oswalt. Broadcast time on AM 590 WKZO is 7:40 pm.
