DETROIT, MI (1660 THE FAN) – The Tigers have now won four consecutive series after Quintin Berry’s walk off bases loaded single in the 10th gave Detroit a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday afternoon .
Tigers’ top prospect Jacob Turner was solid in his 2012 big league debut, pitching five innings, while allowing just one earned run and striking out three Cardinal hitters and walking five.
Prince Fielder put the Tigers on the board first in the 4th inning, as he blasted his 11th homerun of the season to right field, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals only run came in the 5th after a Mat Holliday sacrifice scored Skip Schumaker, tying the game at one.
Octavio Dotel, Phil Coke, Brayan Villarreal and Joaquin Benoit combined for five scoreless innings in relief.
Cardinals starting pitcher Kyle Loshe allowed 1 run over seven innings of work for St. Louis.
The Tigers continue interleague play as they travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates. Doug Fister takes the mound on Friday in the opener of the three game weekend series.
