HARTFORD (WKZO) -- An older couple, who were returning to Detroit, are nursing bumps, bruises and minor lacerations but it could have been a lot worse. Van Buren County deputies say a 67-year-old woman was driving when she apparently fell asleep at the wheel just before 6PM Saturday near the Hartford Exit.
She didn’t wake up until after the car had left her lane on I-94, gone into the median, hit the cable barrier and flipped over so the hood was facing eastbound traffic. By the time deputies arrived, they were both out of the car and waiting for assistance.
She was cited. Her 69-year-old husband had also avoided any serious injuries, probably because they had bucked up. They refused medical treatment.
