DETROIT, MI (1660 THE FAN) - It was a team effort Friday at Comerica...Justin Verlander shutting down a division rival...two-out scoring by the offense...and a spectacular catch by rookie Quintin Berry. Add it all up, and it equals a 4-2 Detroit win over Chicago. More importantly, it moves the Tigers within a half game of the Sox in the AL Central. Verlander pitched 8 strong innings, Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, and Delmon Young all got clutch hits, and Berry helped Jose Valverde earn his 18th save with a shoestring catch to end the game. Game two is set for Saturday, with Rick Porcello on the mound for the Tigers, and Chris Sale pitching for Chicago. Broadcast time on AM 590 WKZO is 3:40 pm.
